These photos were taken on our water safety day in the big pool. The children were fantastic and got over any wobbly nerves they might have had in the beginning. If you look closely, you will see Ms Carroll talking to Casey. She was very impressed with the respect the children were showing to their swimming teachers.

Friday 27 October 2017

As part of our growing unit, we are looking at the changes that happen to a bean. It has been very exciting watching the shoot and roots grow and search for sunlight and water.
We've made a great start to the term with our Maths. The Triangles have been working on 5 and, up to 10. The children had turns at showing their understanding using different equipment. Here the children are showing 5 and 4 = 9. Well done!

Casey also decided to give the parallel bars a go. I helped him the first time and then he knew he could do it! "I'll do it myself," said Casey ... and he did! We are very proud of you too!
Kayleigh challenged herself to go down the parallel bars. She has been wanting to do it for a while and today was the day! Well done Kayleigh, for not giving up and knowing you would be able to do it!

On Fridays, we enjoy sharing news and sometimes we bring something from home to talk about. Milly brought along her puppy which reads aloud a story. Milly put the FM Roger near the puppy so Jayden could hear . .

Saturday 21 October 2017

As part of our construction unit we made a dinosaur diorama as a way to use our newly learnt skills and because we have a high interest in dinosaurs!  This is Kayleigh's diorama.

Monday 16 October 2017

These are our healthy heroes! These children completed the whole programme right to the end! Well done.

hWe were very lucky to have Tiffany from Van Asch School, who is a part of our class twice a week,  play her Clarinet for us. This was to support our music unit for term 3. It was a fantastic opportunity to hear  and see an instrument being played. If you look closely you will see, by the children's hand movements, that they are responding to the changes in the pitch of the tune.

Friday 22 September 2017

Book Week at school this week was lots of fun! The author we enjoyed learning about was David McKee. We loved reading  many of his books but particularly his books about Elmer the elephant. On Friday we had our dress up parade and we didn't really mind it was raining! We finished the day by being the presenters and  running our Team Totara assembly. Everyone in room 8 said their part, sat quietly and patiently and showed respect throughout. I was so proud that I gave everyone a togetherness AND respect token!

Here is Lily sitting in my teaching chair and sharing her 'ME' poster. Lily and her mum made
a lovely, colourful poster and had taken a lot of time making it together.
She  told us all about her family, her pet dog and that she likes to go on picnics and fly kites. When Lily grows up, she would like to be a doctor because she likes looking after people who are hurt. We think you would make a lovely doctor because you show our school HEART values every day. Well done Lily!

We made a tunnel down the ramp outside outside our classroom. Jayden brought an exciting monster car for news sharing and we wanted to see how far it would go.
We had to work together to make the tunnel. We were very excited! Jayden's getting ready to let the car go.

Friday 18 August 2017

On Friday, Indi sat on the teacher's chair and shared her 'ME' poster. She knew what she wanted to tell us and she answered some questions from her audience. We now know that Indi would like to be a mum and a chef when she grows up.
Well done Indi!

Friday 4 August 2017

This is a sneaky photo I took of some children using the ipads at lunchtime. They are creating a story on My Story and we had a great variety of characters like princesses, dinosaurs, dogs. I liked the way everyone showed good focus and helped each other when needed. Well done!

Here is  Jack presenting his ME poster to room 8. He had thought about what he wanted to tell us and spoke very clearly. Now we know when he is grown up he would like to be a builder. It was great to see a photo of his dog, Rocky,  and I'm hoping Jack will write an story about him next week. Well done Jack!

Saturday 22 July 2017

Jayden  was well prepared when he shared his wonderful  'ME'  poster. He had certainly put a lot of time and thought into it. Room 8 were not surprised at all when he said he loves playing rugby and would like to be an All Black one day!

We enjoyed learning about simple machines and how they make life easier. We learnt about levers and then joined 2 levers together with a rubber band to make a small catapult.
3     2     1    fire!!
Watch out Jakob!
Amelia is keeping her eyes firmly on the catapult!

Sam is making sure he's getting out of the firing range.
Wig day and dressing up in some of Mrs Ford's dress ups!
Here we are playing 'Line tag' as part of our fortnightly sports sessions.
